According to Bowden, when he contacted Owen seeking an interview in "late summer" , Owen asked him when Bowden's book would be published. Bowden said that he found it a little "cheap" and "cheesy" that Owen purposely planned to beat him to market while also taking a pen name, "Mark Owen", that is similar to his name, Mark Bowden.
